Almost everyone who starts therapy for the first time asks the question: how often do I actually need to go?
Standard schedule
The most common option is once a week, ideally on the same day and at the same time.
Why is that? Because this interval is considered optimal for therapy to work. It is long enough for the processes set in motion during a session to unfold, yet short enough not to break the therapeutic momentum or lose track of what happened between meetings.
Why is it better to stick to the same day and time? It provides certainty and a sense of grounding, which are very important for us. It creates an extra layer of emotional safety, making it easier to go into difficult feelings—knowing that exactly one week later at the same time, we will be able to process those feelings again.
Can there be a different schedule?
Of course, because everything is individual:
- Sometimes 2 sessions a week are needed.
- Sometimes 1 session every 2 weeks is enough (or there is no way to come more often).
If you don't have the capacity to go every week, but still have the desire and need for therapy—don't hesitate to reach out, we can always work out a custom schedule for you.😌
